Large-scale, permanent layoff of workers at Montpelier company announced Tuesday.

A large-scale, permanent layoff of workers at a Montpelier company was announced to the Williams County commissioners on Tuesday.  Powers and Sons, LLC said that 53 workers, or roughly 44% of the company’s full-time staff, would be let go on December 4th. According to the company’s statement, the layoffs were due to a decrease in available work and the consequent incapacity to maintain current workforce levels.  According to the statement, the company is actively looking for new work, which may enable it to hire new personnel or recall some of its current staff.  Twenty assembly and twenty machining jobs are among those being let go.
