According to preliminary data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio had its lowest Memorial Day weekend traffic death toll in eighteen years, with six fatalities recorded over the four-day holiday.  The reporting period began on Friday, May 22, and ended on Monday, May 25. Troopers made 355 arrests for drunk driving, 66 narcotics arrests, 2,090 safety belt penalties, and 16,490 traffic enforcement encounters during that time. Additionally, 9,179 non-enforcement contacts-including 1,647 motorist assists-were made by officers.
