$19M coming from the federal government to fight Lake Erie algae

The USDA’s first round of grants for soil and water conservation includes more money to help Lake Erie.

Approximately $19 million goes towards cutting down on agriculture runoff that contributes to the lake’s algae.

Officials hope to reduce the phosphorus coming from fertilizer and washing into the rivers that flow into the lake.
