A steel I-beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center will be part of a new monument on the Fulton County Fairgrounds.
The I-beam was most likely a vertical support beam from one of floors. Bits of concrete from the floor are still visible. The force of the destruction on that September morning is obvious. The steel is fractured, rippled, and dented.
The groundbreaking for the new monument, according to the Bryan Times, will be 2 p.m. April 14 next to the Veteran’s Pavilion at the Fulton County Fairgrounds.
Total cost is about $110,000, with all funds raised by private donations.
