Stephen D. “Steve” Bowling, age 58, of Edon, Ohio, died at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his family. Steve was a 1975 graduate of Edon High School, attended the University of Toledo and was employed by the Williams County Engineer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, and Knights of Columbus Council #3883. He was a member of the OHSAA and had been a longtime umpire of baseball and softball and basketball referee. He was the North Central High School girls varsity basketball coach from 2009-2013. An active member of his community, he was a longtime volunteer with Special Olympics of Northwest Ohio and had received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award in 2010. He also had been awarded the Jerry Luce Award in Edon for his contributions to the community. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time outdoors with his entire family.
Steve was born on May 3, 1957, in Montpelier, Ohio, the son of Robert L. and Regina E. (Wortkoetter) Bowling. He married Jan R. Graber of Stryker, Ohio, on August 18, 1979, in Blakeslee and she survives.
Survivors also include his parents, Bob and Jeanie Bowling, of Edon; three daughters, Mandy (Jay) Rohr, of Canton, Ohio, Kendall (Brian) Inkrott, of Powell, Ohio, and Stevie Bowling, of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, JJ, Jordy and Avery Rohr and Maddox and Brody Inkrott; four brothers, Neil (Tammy) Bowling, of Edon, Gary (Jackie) Bowling, of Defiance, Ohio, Leon (Donna) Bowling, of Twentynine Palms, California, and Jeff (Dawn) Bowling, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; one sister, Lori (Jack) Rennie, of Westerville, Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Jean Graber, of Archbold, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Milo Graber.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, followed by recitation of the rosary at 8:00 P.M. A Memorial Mass celebrating the life of Stephen D. Bowling will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, Ohio, with Reverend Frederick Duschl officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the family so that they make a contribution to The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute in Steve’s name.
