Mailbox vandals beware, its a federal crime

The Sheriff’s Department says that the mailbox vandals are back in the county, and told the Bryan Times that its difficult to solve these cases in the rural areas without witnesses. Sheriff Steve Towns asks residents to get a vehicle description if you can and call in tips to the non-emergency number, which is monitored 24/7. The number is 419-636-3151. Mailboxes are federal property and the United States Postal Service has a separate unit to deal with vandalism. Damaging mailboxes or theft of mail are federal crimes and punishable by prison, fines or both.
