Muriel Pearcy, 97, of Bryan passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016. She was born to Eva and Arthur Poole on August 22, 1918 in Queens, NY. She was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School.
Muriel met her late husband, Walter, at a church youth group while in high school. They were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1940. As an army wife, she moved around the country during WWII wherever Walter was stationed. Following his discharge they moved to Long Island, finally settling in Huntington, where she worked as a school secretary in nearby Cold Springs Harbor. In later years they lived in New London, New Hampshire and Sarasota, Florida. Following Walter’s death, on December 15, 1987, Muriel moved to Bryan, where she was active in both the First Presbyterian Church and the Bryan Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Muriel was an avid reader and bridge player, and loved nothing more than cooking for her family and spending time with them.
She is survived by her son Keith (and wife Andrea), three grandchildren: Christopher (Stacy) Pearcy, Claire Pearcy, and Sarah (Rob) VanCleve, and two great-grandchildren: Samuel and Elise Pearcy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her four siblings, Richie, Robbie, Harold and Ruth.
A memorial celebration for Muriel Pearcy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, at the First Presbyterian Church, 506 Oxford Drive, Bryan, with Pastor Barry Sweet officiating. Preceding the celebration, the family will receive visitors at 10:00 at the church. Arrangements have been made through the Krill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in the name of Muriel Pearcy be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan.
