George H. Wells, 92, of Edon, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2016 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. He was born on September 16, 1924 in Homer, Illinois to Floyd and Josephine Wells. George graduated from Homer High School in Homer, Illinois. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. On August 30, 1946 he married Norma M. Poorman and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2001.
George was a farmer, worked as a truck driver for many years and retired from Powers and Sons in Montpelier. He enjoyed playing bingo and was a people person.
George is survived by a daughter, Janie (Darwin) Mocherman of Edon; son, Jeff Wells of Edon; daughter-in-law, Sue Wells of Illinois; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Melton of Oklahoma; and brother Raymond (Catherine) Wells of St. Joe, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma M. Wells; two sons, John and Brian Wells; four sisters, Flossie, Opal, Wilma and Susie; and three brothers, Ira, Virgil and Robert.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home Empire Street Chapel in Montpelier. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Military honors will be presented by the Montpelier V.F.W.
