Marvin D. Maugel, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 1:55 A.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center after an extended illness. Mr. Maugel was a 1947 graduate of Farmer High School and was a member of the 1946 state championship basketball team. He was a veteran of the Unites States Army, serving in France with the 28th General Hospital Division during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by the Ohio Gas Company, retiring after thirty-one years as a serviceman. Marvin was an avid sports fan, especially with basketball and the Edgerton Bulldogs, and he enjoyed watching horse racing and NASCAR. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Edgerton, Ohio, was a sixty-four year member of Farmer American Legion Post #137 and a Life Member of Bryan Moose Lodge #1064.
Marvin D. Maugel was born near Bryan on April 29, 1929, the son of Donald and Esther (Cook) Maugel. He married Lois M. Wheeler on June 16, 1956, in Hicksville, Ohio, and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert (Jennifer) Maugel, of Leo, Indiana, and David (Dawn) Maugel, of Wakarusa, Indiana; two daughters, Christina Buehrer, of Defiance, Ohio, and Diane (Mark) Krill, of Edgerton; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edwin (Marian) Maugel, of Farmer, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Buehrer; one brother, Robert Maugel in World War II; one sister, June Campbell; and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton. Recitation of the rosary will follow at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church, Edgerton, with Reverend Daniel Borgelt and Reverend John Stites officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Edgerton. Grave side military rites will be conducted by Farmer American Legion Post #137 and the United States Army Honor Guard.
