Bryan City Council rescinds pay increases for three city employees

Here’s your raise, now give it back…pay increases for three city employees approved at the last Bryan City Council meeting have now been rescinded. The action took place at Monday’s meeting. The rate bumps for Assistant Street Commissioner Tim Sands, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Bruce Wheeler and Fire Captain Gary Merschdorf were enacted in order to keep the city in line with new minimum requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act which were scheduled to go into effect Dec. 1.A Texas federal court judge placed a stay on the law, siding with a number of businesses, organizations and states that argue the Obama administration doesn’t have authority to issue the change.
