Richard D. Bauer, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Genesis HealthCare-Bryan Center. Mr. Bauer was a 1948 graduate of Holgate High School and retired in 1992 from Local 8, I.B.E.W. after 35 years of service as an electrician. He served our country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950-1953. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan VFW Post #2489 and Bryan Loyal Order of Moose #1064. Earlier this year, Richard was recognized as a 60-year member of Local 8.
Born on March 25, 1930, in Holgate, Ohio, Richard Daniel Bauer was the son of the late Fred and Edith (Well) Bauer. He married Nellie (Thompson) Morr in Holgate on October 4, 1955, and she preceded him in death in 1987. He married Martha L. (Haas) Schmunk in 1988 and she preceded him in death in 2005. In 2006, he married Joan (Rowland) Hallett, and she survives.
Richard is also survived by his children, Terry (Terry) Morr, of Fayette, Tom (Janis) Morr, of Bryan, Bonnie Verhoff, of Orrville, Alabama, Manda Mack, of Bryan, Donald (Sue) Hallett, of Bryan, Terry (Deb) Hallett, of Bryan, Jody (Mike) Strahle, of Bryan and Dottie (Dan) Yahraus, of Bryan; his grandchildren, Tim (Beth) Morr, Jim (Terri) Morr, Andy (Laura) Morr, Jennifer (Will) Roberts, Josh (Jessica) Verhoff, Jason Mack, Kelly Mack, Amy (Ben) Dominique, Erin (Jason) Beals, Linsi (Jon) List, Michael Strahle, Sarah (Eric) Hahn, Beth (Terence) Clingaman, Andrea Yahraus and Jami Hallett; his great-grandchildren, Kennedy Morr, Ian and Evan Morr, Margo, Alex and Tara Morr, William and Taylor Roberts, Jordan Mack, Hadley, Hudson and Hayes Verhoff, Dylan, Carter and Taylor Dominique, Taeo and Zoei List, Vera and Merit Hahn; a sister, Marcine Cooper, of Cecil; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wives, Nellie and Martha; a brother, Byron (Ruth) Bauer; sisters, Mildred (Alva) Hoffman and Helen (Jim) Noll; son-in-law, Doug Mack; and three grandchildren.
Visitation for Richard will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 509 Center Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506. Services will begin at noon with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. A luncheon will follow the service and grave side rites at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery will be held at 2:00 P.M. with military rites presented by Bryan VFW Post #2489 and the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
