Larry W. Ruffer, age 81, of Archbold, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold. Larry Ruffer was an advid lover of all things Christmas. He just celebrated his 80th birthday with a Christmas theme party and a visit from Santa. He enjoyed dressing up ad Santa for the preschool children at the Fulton County Board of DD. His bedroom was decorated year round in Christmas décor.
Larry was born in Wauseon, Ohio on April 11, 1936, the son of Don and Nettie (Pace) Ruffer. Larry loved spending time making wreaths for his parents grave which he visited weekly, making them for his bedroom, and any holiday. He loved crafting, rings, necklaces, and anything with painting or coloring. He enjoyed showing off his rings and art work to anyone who wished to see them. He also enjoyed cooking shows and cooking magazines. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Larry spent his later life living at the Archbold Family Care Home through Sunshine Communities. He enjoyed his roommates, Melissa, Austin, Andy and Dawn. He also had a very special friend Cathy that he enjoyed spending time with. They all participated in the Pettisville Missionary Church group called the “SONshine” class which he attended every Sunday. Then followed by a relaxing Sunday afternoon, in his outdoor swing or glider watching the birds and squirrels.
Larry and his roommates enjoyed vacationing together. They took trips to the lake to go on boat rides, Mackinaw Island, Camping at KOA, trips to the Toledo Zoo, Art museum, Hollywood Casino, Gull Woods, Harrison Lake and many many shopping trips. Especially anything that involved a garage sale.
Larry leaves behind many caring staff from Sunshine Communities that have cared for him. He also attended the HUB/Senior Program through Triangular processing with a very special Friend Paulette that will truly miss him.
Visitation for Larry will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold, where the funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in the Archbold Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions her given to Sunshine Communities or the Fulton County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
