Walter S. Oberlin, 92

Walter S. Oberlin, 92 years of Bryan passed away Wednesday, April 04, 2018 in Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance. Walter was born January 29, 1926 in Bryan Ohio, the son of the late Hiram Perry and Isola (Walters) Oberlin. Walter was a 1943 graduate of Bryan High School. He served in the United States Army as a Mechanic during WWII, serving our country from 1946-1947. Walter married Mary Lou Bly in January 1951 in Bryan, Ohio and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2000. Walter was a life-long dairy and grain farmer. He was active in the Williams County Dairy Association, District 10 Holstein Association, Williams County 4-H Club, and a Farmer Bureau Member. Walter was a member of Pulaski United Methodist Church. Farming was Walter’s passion. He was hard working and enjoyed spending time outdoors. When he wasn’t tending to his farm, he enjoyed socializing with his farming friends while playing cards. He truly cherished time spent with his family.

Surviving are his three sons, Thomas S. Oberlin of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Jack L. (Christina) Oberlin of Bryan, Ohio and Gregory J. Oberlin of Bryan, Ohio; five grandchildren, Nick (Lydia) Showalter of Bryan, Ohio, Andrea (Christopher) Boeyink of Chicago, Illinois, Alexander Oberlin of Columbus, Ohio, Kayla Oberlin of Stryker, Ohio and Kari Oberlin of Stryker, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Chesser of Toledo, Ohio, and two former daughters-in-law, Rose Hicks-Oberlin of Atlanta, Georgia and Roberta Walker-Oberlin of Stryker, Ohio. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou; two brothers, H. Perry Oberlin, Jr. and Charles Oberlin.

Visitation for Walter S. Oberlin will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. in Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home- Lynn Street Chapel, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Pulaski United Methodist Church, 06950 US Route 127, Bryan, Ohio 43506, with Pastor Christopher Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan, with Military Graveside Rites performed by Bryan American Legion Post 284.
