Donald Edward Beck, age 88, of Stryker, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, after a brief illness. He passed away at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold, surrounded by his loving family. Prior to his retirement he had worked in the manufactured home business, having been the plant manager at the former Castle Enterprises in Stryker and Mobile Home Estates in Edgerton. He was also a bus driver for Quadco in Stryker.
Don was born in Archbold, Ohio, on January 9, 1930, the son of Oscar and Mary (Yedica) Beck. On November 12, 1950, he married Janis Stamm, and she preceded him in death in 2015. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Stryker. He was graduated from Archbold High School in 1947. He had served as a volunteer with the Springfield Township-Stryker Fire Department for over 25 years. He loved fishing his entire life, and after retirement he enjoyed wood carving and making stained glass. In the winters, he and Janis spent time at Fun N Sun Resorts in San Benito, Texas and Gulf Shores, Alabama, and their summers were spent at Boot Lake, near Hillsdale, Michigan.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen (Carl) Conti of Ridgway, CO, Sue (Lynn) Miller of Stryker; grandsons, Tyson Herrington, Manitou Beach, MI, and Todd Herrington of Stryker; siblings, Lois Jackson of Adrian, MI, Dorothy Miller of Fayette, and Rollin “Bud” and Tootie Beck of Archbold. He was preceded in death by brother, Robert Beck, sister, Laura Austin; and in-laws, Garnett and Lois Stamm, Elsie and Carol Custer, and Gene and Ivyl Carlin.
Visitation for Don will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the First Lutheran Church in Stryker. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, also in the church, with Pastor Tamara Wood, officiating. Interment will be in the Pettisville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First Lutheran Church, 701 S.
