George A. Simmons, 85 of Lake Wales, Florida passed Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Florida. He was born June 2, 1932 in West Unity, Ohio to the late Clayton and Mabel (Walker) Simmons. George had been a resident of the Lake Wales area since 2006 after moving there from Punta Gorda, Florida.
George was a retired Bank President. He enjoyed boating, golf, rving and was an avid water skier. He was Past Commodore of Platinum Point Yacht Club in Punta Gorda. George was a member of Lake Ashton Travelers, Ohio Bankers Association and of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales.
George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janet L. Simmons; daughters, Linda Kolb (Ron) of Ney, Ohio, Brenda Simmons of Monclova, Ohio, Barbara Beth Gaulard (Andre) of Jacksonville, Florida; step daughter, Amy Hendricks of Vermilion, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Michael Allen Simmons, sister, Marcella Chamberlain and brother-in-law, Chuck Chamberlain.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Shiffler cemetery in rural Bryan. Memorials made be made in George’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Wales, Florida.
