Lorene A. Harsila of Bryan, Ohio, passed away Thursday evening September 20, 2018 at Genesis HealthCare – Bryan Center, at the age of 91. Lorene was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Lorene was born in Marquette, Michigan on May 16, 1927 the daughter of the late Lauren and Elsie (Hendrickson) Hornada. Lorene married Oliver H. “Ollie” Harsila on December 26, 1946 in Gwinn, Michigan, and the couple moved to Bryan in 1957. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage before Oliver’s death in 1997. Lorene worked as a LPN at Bryan Hospital from 1966 until her retirement in 1993. Lorene enjoyed her short commute to work, always able to walk as she lived within a block of the hospital her entire career. Along with her family, her work as a nurse as well as the friendships she made with co-workers brought her the greatest joy.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Harry Herrington, and siblings Helen, Betty, John, Judy and Marvin. She is survived by a sister, Ruth (Dick) Baldwin of Marquette, Michigan; four children, Linda (Gary) Smith of Perrysburg, Ohio, Mimi (James) Crow and Larry (Mona) Harsila, both of Bryan, and Janice Herrington of Sherwood, Michigan. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren, Sacha (Paul) Leu of West Unity, Ohio, Jeff (Pam) Smith of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Jason (Glenda) Crow of Pensacola, Florida, Nichole (Ed) Verbilla of Gibbsboro, New Jersey, Stephanie (Jared) Kies of Perrysburg, Ohio, Zach (Kristina) Herrington of Sherwood, Michigan, Nolan (Elizabeth) Herrington of Holt, Michigan, Lauren (Daniel) Fuchs of Athens, Ohio, and Lesley (Michael Kirch) Harsila of Watertown, New York. Lorene was also blessed by 23 great grandchildren as well as one great-great grandchild with another on the way.
Visitation for Lorene A. Harsila will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home on Lynn Street in Bryan from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a service immediately following with Rev. Peter Paige from Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Home Health and Hospice, 1215 Portland Street, Bryan, Ohio 43506 or to Community Hospitals and Wellness Center Share Foundation.
