BRYAN LIGHTS TO COST MORE THAN PROJECTED

The Bryan Board of Pub­lic Affairs on Tues­day, reluc­tantly approved a cost­lier pur­chase of new street­light poles than what was orig­i­nally expected.

In July, the board autho­rized pur­chase of new, more mod­ern poles to replace the old poles on a por­tion of South Main Street at a cost of $748 each.

Now how­ever, due to the design of the exist­ing poles, cus­tom base plates are nec­es­sary for the new poles to work.

The cus­tom base plates, accord­ing to The Bryan Times, up the cost of each indi­vid­ual pole from $748 to almost $920.

27 poles need to be replaced, and that work will most likely begin in November.
