The Bryan Board of Public Affairs on Tuesday, reluctantly approved a costlier purchase of new streetlight poles than what was originally expected.
In July, the board authorized purchase of new, more modern poles to replace the old poles on a portion of South Main Street at a cost of $748 each.
Now however, due to the design of the existing poles, custom base plates are necessary for the new poles to work.
The custom base plates, according to The Bryan Times, up the cost of each individual pole from $748 to almost $920.
27 poles need to be replaced, and that work will most likely begin in November.
