Mary M. Higgins, age 101, of Bryan, Ohio and formerly of Montpelier, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Hillside Country Living near Bryan surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Mrs. Higgins was the last surviving member of the Edon High School Class of 1936 and was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and was known for her homemade chicken and noodles and her pies that she had at one time supplied to the Cobblestone restaurant in Columbia. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and others, crocheting and crafting. She was member of the Edon United Methodist Church, Columbia Ladies Aide and Montpelier Garden Club and also worked at he Montpelier Auto Auction for a number of years.
Mary M. Higgins was born on March 4, 1917, in Steuben County, Indiana, the daughter of Wesley and Mildred (Light) Bunce. She married Ivan Kimpel on February 4, 1940, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1967. She then married Floyd “Bunk” Higgins on September 10, 1977, and he preceded her on March 22, 2005.
Survivors include five daughters; Rosemary Kimpel, of Bryan, Martha (Leslie) Bechtol, of Edon, Nancy (Will) Cramer, of Jonesville, Michigan, Marie (Bob) Nord, of Elverson, Pennsylvania, Marcella (Darrel) Huard, of Bryan; one son Alan (Barbara Steele) Kimpel, of Perrysburg, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Susan Kimpel, of Edon; step daughters, Helen (David) Vance, in Florida, Barbara (Barry) White, in Maine and Marti Stuckey, in Kentucky, eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther (Dick) Warren, of Bryan. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Kimpel; three brothers, Leon, Wayne and Kenneth Bunce; and her special friend and roommate, Helen Rigelman.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor Deb Widdowson officiating Interment will follow in Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, Ohio.
