Virginia A. Rockey, age 84, of Bryan, Ohio, and formerly a longtime resident of Edon, Ohio, died at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice in Defiance, Ohio, after a brief illness. Mrs. Rockey was a 1952 graduate of Bryan High School. She was employed by Simpson Industries for 29 years, was member of the Edon United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Edon Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed bowling for several years.
Virgina A. Rockey was born on October 9, 1934, near Morenci, Michigan, the daughter of William and Bernice (Bryan) Shaffer. She married her husband, Orval V. Rockey, on November 22, 1953, in Bryan, Ohio, and they enjoyed nearly sixty-five years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 23, 2018.
Surviving are her children, Victor (Donna) Rockey, of Auburn, Indiana, Pamela (Mark) Neighbor, of McDonough, Georgia, and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Rockey of Edon; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Delores “Dolly” Tidd, of Dayton, Ohio, Marylin “Midge” Munday, of Bryan, and Patricia (William) Friend, of Ney, Ohio; one brother, Arthur (Cora) Shaffer, of Delta, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Dolores “Dolly” Shaffer, of Bryan. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her parents; one sister, Marie Hill; and one brother, William Shaffer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at the Edon United Methodist Church, Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Doug Widdowson officiating. The family will receive visitors prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Edon Cemetery following the service.
