Firefighters were called out to a house fire Thursday afternoon near West Otter Lake in Steuben County.
The call for help came in just after 4 p.m., and fire crews from four area companies were dispatched to the blaze at 9500 County Road W.
Crews quickly doused the flames, but the damage was dine to the kitchen, attic and exterior of the house. The damage was estimated at $45,000 according to fire investigators.
The homeowner told firefighters the kitchen stove caught fire while his family was cooking. After trying unsuccessfully to extinguish the flames, he escaped the home with his family. No one was hurt.
