Glenn “Colonel” F. Geren, 86

Glenn “Colonel” F. Geren, 86, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.  He was born August 25, 1935, in Ney, Ohio, the son of the late Edgar L. and Bertha I. (Brown) Geren.  In his early years, Glenn worked around the family dairy farm “E.L. Geren Midget Dairy Farm”, and the family Gulf Service Station in Ney.  Glenn married Mary E. Rhodes on January 30, 1971, in Fremont, Indiana, and she preceded him on death on November 29, 2020.  He worked as a delivery driver for Ney Lumber Company for 42 years, and then worked in grounds and maintenance for Farmer Township, retiring in 2003.  In the 1960’s, he served on the Ney Volunteer Fire Department, and served as the Fire Chief for a period of time.  Glenn enjoyed wood craftsmanship, and was proud of his many finished projects, including the walnut wood room at the current Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home on Lynn Street in Bryan.  In his free time, Glenn loved spending time with his family at their Clear Lake cottage.  He also enjoyed listening to country music, and attended many local concerts, and even visited the Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Amy (Matt) Brandt of Ney, Ohio; granddaughter, Linzi Graber; four step-children, Deb (Maury) Sims of Ney, Ohio, Steve Stauffer of Ney, Ohio, Cathy (Ed) DeRossett of Sherwood, Ohio, and Kelly (Randy) Mitsch of Butler, Indiana; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and life-long friend, Forest “Corky” Dietrich of Ney, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Mary E. Geren; one step-son, Dale Stauffer; and one brother, Gene E. Geren.

A gathering of family and friends for Glenn F. Geren will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio 43556.  A Celebration of Life will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. with Betty Penner officiating.  Interment will follow in Farmer Cemetery.
