Back On the Ballot

After the issue failed in May, Bryan city officials say it’s imperative they find a way to get the 0.5% income tax renewed in November. On Monday, city council voted to put the issue back before voters while stressing the need to educate the public about the essential sewer and street projects the tax has financed since it was initially passed in 1986. With that said…the city is legally barred from using taxpayer money to promote the levy and so far, it seems, no one has stepped up to lead a committee to promote passage. Renewal would continue collection of the tax for another nine and a half years. Otherwise, it will expire in June 2023.
