A $9,500 state grant will increase the number of people capable of handling hazardous materials in the county. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio announced $800,000 dollars in grants for training across the state, including one to the Williams County Local Emergency Planning Committee. Money for the grants come from fines are paid by hazardous material carriers and shippers. The training with this grant will get more firefighters in the county certified as technicians, which will make response times better, they add.
