William S. Van Dyke, 86 years, of Fayette, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Heartland of Wauseon, Wauseon, Ohio. Bill was born July 1, 1927 in Delta, Ohio, the son of the late Klintworth and Mae (Peters) Van Dyke. He married Betty Lou Ankney on September 14, 1944 in Adrian, Michigan, and she preceded him in death on May 29, 1992. Bill was a truck driver, hauling milk, Freight, Jeeps and Pre-constructed Homes. He then worked as a machine operator for Haldiman Corp. Bill was a hard worker, but his great love was in farming. Bill was a volunteer fireman for the Kunkle Fire Department and had served as Fire Chief.
Surviving are his four children, Thomas (Charla) Van Dyke of Montgomery, Michigan, James (Jessica) Van Dyke of Kunkle, Ohio, Susan (Brian) Wells of Flanagan, Illinois and Linda (Roy) Koenig of Flanagan, Illinois; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his companion of 20 years, Ruth Baranowski. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Lou, one son, Robert Van Dyke and one daughter, Judy Holtz; one grandson, Mark Van Dyke and one sister, Betty Wagner.
Visitation for William S. Van Dyke will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity, Ohio (419-924-9200) where funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Tim King officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Delta, Ohio.
