Richard L. “Red” Whitney, age 88, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 11:18 A.M. on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Park View Nursing Center in Edgerton, where he was a resident. Mr. Whitney was a 1953 graduate of Edgerton High School. Throughout his work career, he worked at Edgerton Local Schools for many years, Day’s Furniture in Edgerton, and Fleetwood in Edgerton and Garrett, Indiana. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed ice fishing, was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes, enjoyed traveling to the casinos, and enjoyed picking on people. He especially enjoyed following and supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events.
Richard L. Whitney was born on May 19, 1934, near Edon, Ohio, the son of Leon Edward and Thelma Marie (Ansley) Whitney. He married Theyma L. Kitchen on October 18, 1953, in Edgerton, and she preceded him in death on May 5, 2013.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Whitney and Dan (Penny) Whitney, both of Edgerton; two daughters, Julia Marie (Mike) Wright, of Edgerton, and Jodi Kay (Rodney) Conkle, of Hicksville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marlin Whitney, of Edgerton. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Junior Whitney.
A celebration of Red’s life will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in Edgerton United Methodist Church with Reverend Susan Kronbach officiating. Private interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton.
