Richard Walter “Dick” Johnson, 79

Richard Walter “Dick” Johnson, age 79, of Stryker, passed away on November 1, 2022, in his home surrounded by his family. Richard was the music director at the Stryker Area Schools for many years.

Richard was born on April 11, 1943, in Bryan, Ohio to the late Wilfred Peter “W.P. Jack” and Irene Elizabeth (Rataiczak) Johnson. Richard was a Stryker High School graduate of 1961 and a Defiance College graduate of 1966. On June 11, 1966, he married Roberta “Bobbie” Weber, who survives, and together spent 56 loving years together.  Richard was the music teacher at Hilltop High School from 1965 to 1971, and the music teacher at Stryker High School from 1971 to 2000.  Richard was also a co-owner of Woolace and Johnson’s, Inc for several years. Richard loved fishing, hunting, boating, camping, and more fishing. He especially enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July at the lake with all of his family.  He and Bobbie also built their home from scratch.

Surviving Richard is his wife, Bobbie; son, Nate (Mandi) Johnson; son, Mark (Laurie) Johnson; daughter Jackie (Kent) Holsopple; and son Tim (Aytha) Johnson. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ellie (Jake), Zac, Tori, Anthony, Brett (Grace), Abigail, Luke, Kaleb, Andrew, Adam, Briggs, Tanner, Kendra, Averie, and Isabella; great-grandchildren, Myla and Merritt; and siblings, Jim Johnson and Mary Ann Cready. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Richard will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022, at St. Michael’s Ridge Catholic Church from 1pm to 7pm. Visitation dress will be casual, fishing or hunting attire welcome. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the church at 10am, with Fr. Melwin Dsouza officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Stryker Band Boosters, Stryker School Foundation, St. Michael’s Parish Center Building Fund, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
