Phyllis J. Masser, 90, formerly of Ney, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Glenn Park of Defiance. Phyllis was born February 15, 1932, in Sherwood, Ohio, daughter of the late Earl and Ruby (Fansler) Keesbury. She was a 1950 graduate of Sherwood High School. Phyllis married Kenneth R. “Kenny” Masser on June 15, 1953, in Dornsife, Pennsylvania, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2018. Phyllis worked as the head cook at Fairview High School prior to her retirement, and before to that, worked as a cook at Leisure Oaks Nursing Home. She was a dedicated and active member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, kitchen cook, and in many other capacities. She was also an advisor with the 4-H club when her children were young. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and crocheting, and made many hats, gloves, and blankets for her grandchildren over the years.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Judy Masser of Sherwood, Steven (Mary) Masser of Sherwood, and Jeff Masser of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, George (Renee) Keesbury of Statesville, North Carolina. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth R. “Kenny” Masser; one son, Terry Masser; six brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation for Phyllis J. Masser will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio. Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Boyd Shugert officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood.
