A report in today’s Bryan Times says that Norfolk Southern Railroad’s one-of-a-kind Veterans Locomotive was spotted near the Ohio 107 overpass Wednesday morning.
Diesel No. 6920 was dedicated Nov. 12 at the railroad’s headquarters in Norfolk, Va., to honor employees that have served in the military.
Norfolk Southern employs 4,200 veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserves, which represents 14 percent of its total work force.
The Veterans Locomotive is part of Norfolk Southern’s “Heritage Fleet” created in 2012 to mark the company’s 30th anniversary. That fleet features 20 other locomotives, each painted to represent key predecessors of the Norfolk Southern line.
The Wabash Railroad, which used to be headquartered in Montpelier, is also represented in the fleet.
If you missed it in person, photos of the engines can be seen on the company’s website, http://www.nscorp.com.
