Williams County commissioners give their approval to move forward with a sanitary sewer line to Alvordton.

The Williams County commissioners give their approval to move forward with a sanitary sewer line to Alvordton. Williams County Engineer Todd Roth requested permission to submit and sign an application for the project. The application will be sent to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. The project would provide a wastewater system for Alvordton, which is unincorporated. The county was recently awarded a $3.3 million dollar federal grant to help pay for the project. Alvordton has no existing central sewer and is currently served by failing residential sewage treatment systems that use private water wells as a source of drinking water. Officials say there is not adequate lot size or soil conditions to replace these individual septic systems to comply with state environmental standards. The proposed project includes installing 16,000 feet of 8-inch mainline sewer within an existing road right-of-way, routing wastewater to a pump station on the southeast side of the village and adding laterals at each residence.
