Mearl M. Gorrell, 91

Mearl M. Gorrell, 91, of Harlan, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Kingston at Dupont, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Mearl was born March 26, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Earl and Vida (Cleland) Beerbower.  After graduating from Harlan High School in 1950, she married Harry A. Gorrell on February 18, 1951, in the former Salem Church, Harlan.  Together, they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until Harry’s passing on January 23, 2002.  Mearl worked as a secretary for various businesses, including Klopfenstein Furniture, where she retired from in 1994.  She was a founding member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Harlan, and was involved in various Bible Studies, Sunday School, and the weekly Sewing Circle with the church.  She also participated in the Chatter Home Economics Club, often referred to as “The Club”.  Mearl was an avid reader, having her own home library collection, and enjoyed playing piano.  Through the years, she also loved gardening and being an active farm wife.  Mearl will fondly be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mearl is survived by her three children, Brian (Jodie) Gorrell of Howe, Indiana, Cindy (Alan) Fishback of Harlan, Indiana, and Gail (Robin) Bridges of Haynesville, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Jarrod) McGuire, Sandra (Cory) Quaintance, Jovany (Kendra) Gorrell, Becky (Brandon) France, Bradley (Tara) Fishback, Shelby (TJ) Pfister, Tony (Jennifer) Bridges, and Katy (David) Dick; and 16 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; and a brother, Gary Beerbower.

Visitation for Mearl M. Gorrell will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 18330 IN-37, Harlan, Indiana 46743.  Funeral services for Mearl will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the church with Minister Alex Heffelfinger officiating.  There will be an additional hour of visitation on Saturday prior to the start of the funeral service.  Interment will follow in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.  Arrangements are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
