Lois J. (Anders) Baughman, 77

Lois Joy Baughman, age 77, of Montpelier, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, surrounded by her family at CHP Hospice in Defiance after a long and brave battle with dementia. Lois was born on February 9, 1947 in Tecumseh, Michigan to Velma and Paul Anders before moving to Ohio. She married the love of her life Rick Baughman on March 29, 1969, and they spent 55 wonderful years together.

Lois was an accomplished art educator, retiring in 2003 from Montpelier High School, where she was beloved by her students and colleagues. Her drawings and paintings won numerous awards and are currently showcased in area businesses throughout Northwest Ohio. In addition to her artistic talents, she wrote poems, made jewelry, and wove baskets. Perhaps her favorite pastime, however, was going on adventures all over the country with her husband Rick, who kept them “on the go” and made sure they never wasted a minute of their precious time together.

A 1965 graduate of Montpelier High School, Lois completed her bachelor’s degree in art education at Bowling Green State University, and two master’s degrees (fine art and art education) at St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She completed her graduate degrees while also designing and building a beautiful home for her family in Montpelier.

Lois is survived by her husband Rick, of Montpelier; daughters Stephanie (Todd) Friend, of Montpelier (grandchildren, Brennen and Bria), and Melissa (Chris Baumgartner) Baughman, of Norman, Oklahoma (grandsons, Alex and Owen). She was preceded in death by her daughter Jenny, sister Angie, and parents Velma and Paul.

A time to receive friends will be held on Monday, April 1 from 4:00–7:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier. A funeral service celebrating Lois will be celebrated On Tuesday, April 2 at 11:00am (Thompson Funeral Home).

The family would like to recognize the family, friends, and healthcare workers who so generously provided support to Lois in recent years. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or CHP Hospice in Defiance.
