William Wayne “Bill” Bany, Sr., 85

William Wayne “Bill” Bany, Sr., 85, of Bryan, Ohio passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, surrounded by his family. Bill was born May 14, 1939, in Wheeling, West Virginia, son of the late Harry M. and June B. (Cosper) Bany. Bill graduated from Montpelier High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army from April 3, 1963 until his honorable discharge on April 2, 1965. Bill married Linda Kay Myers on July 20, 1963, in Alexandria, Virginia. Bill worked in the Customer Service Department at ARO Corp. for 30 years, retiring on October 20, 1995. He then began working at Gorny Winzeler for 10 years. Along with his wife, Linda, Bill was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, helped run the Awana Youth Program and sang in the church choir. Bill was also a member of Bryan VFW Post 2489 and served as former President of the Bryan Lions Club, where he received a Melvin Jones Award.  He volunteered at Bryan Hospital, where he served as President of the Hospital Auxiliary and was a mentor at Bryan City Schools. Bill loved his family and always supported his grandchildren in all their activities. In his free time, he enjoyed doing yardwork and cooking.

Surviving is his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Bany of Bryan, Ohio; son, William W. “BJ” (Dawn) Bany, Jr. of Bryan, Ohio; two grandchildren, Noah and Gabriella Bany; sister, Georgene Miccichi; five nieces and nephews; cherished pet cat, Abraham. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Barbara Jean Bany; brother-in-law, James Miccichi.

Visitation for Bill will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  at Wesley United Methodist Church, 903 Center Street, Bryan. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the church with Pastors Steve Rath and Rick Stiver officiating. Private interment will be made in Edon Cemetery with military rites accorded by combined honor guard Bryan VFW Post 2489 and Bryan American Legion Post 284.
