Terry E. Gaston, 74, of Cecil, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Terry was born December 3, 1949, in Bryan, Ohio, son of the late Gerald E. Gaston and Dolores E. (Gericke) Buchanan. He was a 1967 graduate of Sherwood High School. Terry served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam Era until his honorable discharge on February 22, 1973. He married Kellie Cherrie Blanke on June 23, 1984, in Minster, Ohio, and she survives. Terry worked as a pipefitter for General Motors Hydramatic Plant in Toledo for 30 years, retiring in 2006. He then worked at Spangler Candy Company, Bryan, Ohio, and attained the nickname “Candyman” He was a member of the Hicksville First Church of Christ, where he had served as a Deacon, ran the elevator on Sunday Morning and fulfilled his nickname of Candyman, handing out suckers to all the kids at church. He enjoyed stained glass. He was an avid shooter and loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and watching baseball. He loved handing out candy on Sunday morning, but he loved his family much more.
Surviving is his wife, Kellie Gaston of Cecil; two children, Elizabeth Gaston of Sherwood, Ohio and Monte Lee of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five siblings, Bridget Witte of Hicksville, Richard (Rita) Gaston of Cape Coral, Florida, Christ (Christy) Gaston of Tobaccoville, North Carolina, Deannie (David) Morse of Hicksville, and Kathy (Eric) Woods of St. Joe, Indiana. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law, Chuck Witte, Ron Blanke and Melvin Jenkins.
Visitation for Terry E. Gaston will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Hicksville First Church of Christ, 118 North Main Street, Hicksville. Visitation will continue Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. where A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, in the church with Pastor Chuck Schmunk officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
