Ivan “Jim” Dominique went to be with his Lord on May 5, 2015, surrounded by loving family. He was born on July 3, 1934 to the late Ralph and Olivia Dominique. He married his ‘honey’, Pat on September 11, 1954 and she survives him. His 80 years were full of hard work, laughter and love. He worked most of his life as a home remodeler before retiring several years ago. However, faith, friends and family were always the most important things in his life. Jim loved attending his grandkids sporting events and bragging about them to whoever would listen. It was common to see him in the bleachers at a ballgame with a bag of popcorn and a hot dog. He loved his Tigers and his Lions. Even when his health began to fail, he tried his best not to miss a Thursday night card game with “the guys”. Jim loved being with people and they loved him.
Jim was a member of St. Caspar’s Catholic Church in Wauseon. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon in 1976 and served the people of St. Caspar’s well until his health began to fail last fall. He baptized many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many of his children and grandchildren had the privilege of having him perform their weddings. He felt a particular calling to preside over many ‘wake’ services over the years. He had a great love of the Eucharist and often took communion to shut-ins. God gave Jim a gentleness that touched many hearts. He was not afraid to cry and never let an opportunity to hug someone pass him by. A friend used to say that ‘If an unsuspecting soul got in an elevator on the top floor with Jim, they would know his whole life history before they got to the bottom”.
Jim will be missed dearly by his wife of 60 years, Pat and 24 children, daughters Deb (Dave) Dietrich, Cindy (Joe) Baker, Cathy (Jeff) Stiriz, Teresa (Rick) Schultz , Tammy(Bob) Sperling, Jodi (Chad) Richardson, Michelle (Alex) Gigax, Melissa Dominique, Dawn(Dan)McCarty, Arianna Dominique, Stephanie Dominique, Carolann Dominique, Angel(David) Pitts, Tracey(Tony) Carpenter, Felicia (Kevin) Oldham and Tabatha Dominique, sons Jim(Laura), Russ (Karen), Randy (Jackie), Doug (Sherrie), Dennis, Justin, Eric and Brian (Jessie), foster daughter Cheryl Osenbaugh and sister-in-law MaryAnn Dominique. He also will be sorely missed by over 100 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren who brightened his life so much.
He was welcomed at the gates of heaven by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, son-in-law, Joe Narges, granddaughter Desiree Rapp and several angel grandbabies.
Visitation will be from 2-8 at St. Caspar’s Catholic Church on Thursday, May 7, 2015, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., followed by a Wake Service at 7:15 P.M. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at St. Caspar’s on Friday May 8 at 10:30 AM with Father Todd Dominique and Father Dave Bruning, and Father Robert Holden, presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Caspar Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Meals on Wheels or the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon has been entrusted with arrangements.
