Clara E. Garver, 92 years, of Bryan, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 14, 2015, at her residence with her family at her side. Clara was born March 15, 1923, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Lydia (Vollmer) Billow. She was a 1941 graduate of Ney High School, where she was the class Salutatorian. She married Mark D. Garver on October 11, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1982. Clara was employed by Dinner Bell Foods in Defiance for 15 years, retiring on December 20, 1985. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council, played piano for worship services and the Cherub Choir, taught Bible School and attended many Bible Studies and participated in the WELCA as well as the church bowling league. She was active in the Church Women United, the Ney Social Club, Washington Township Club, where she was a Past-President. Clara enjoyed music, spending time with her family and collecting angels.
Surviving are her seven children, John H. (Mary) Garver of Bryan, Ronald P. (Betty) Garver of Bryan, Faith E. (Richard Neuman) Garver of McComb, Ohio, William V. Garver of Anderson, South Carolina, Barbara S. (Mike) Gorrell of Mark Center, Ohio, Lawrence D. (Linda) Garver of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Jerald A. (Jodi) Garver of Findlay, Ohio; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Mary Jane) Billow of Maumee, Ohio and Marvin (Mary Alice) Billow of Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, one brother, Lawrence Billow and one sister, Erma Lindhorst.
Funeral services for Clara E. Garver will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church 509 Center Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Bryan. Visitation for Clara will be held two hours prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan, Ohio.
