Ohio’s population of those 65 and older is growing. Newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that the northwest corner of the state is no exception to that finding. The latest figures show that Defiance County’s 65+ population grew by 1.8 percent between 2010 and 2014 — from 15 percent of the population in 2010, to 16.8 percent in 2014. Six northwest Ohio counties — Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Williams, Paulding and Putnam — saw increases to their 65+ population over the past four years… the most in Henry County, where a jump from 15.3 percent of the population in 2010, to 17.6 percent in 2014 was recorded. Meanwhile, total population in Defiance County decreased from 39,106 to 38,510 in 2014.
