An uptick in fatal crashes here in Ohio, has the highway patrol urging drivers to use caution. Statewide, there has been an increase of 38 fatalities this year over the same period last year. There are 600 confirmed fatalities this year compared to the 562 fatalities that were confirmed a year ago. According to the highway patrol, statewide traffic deaths were significantly higher during the months of January, February and May this year, with May being the worst month for traffic deaths in a decade. As for the local figures… The Highway Patrol reports a total of 23 fatal crashes in the six-county area… six in Defiance County, four in each of Fulton, Henry Paulding and Williams counties, and one in Putnam County… an 18 percent increase compared to figures from the same time frame in 2014.
