Paul A. Lay On October 20, 2015, Paul A. Lay completed the days God had allotted to him. Paul was born on October 8, 1927 to Rinehart and Laurine (Vetter) Lay. During World War II, Paul served with the Army, in the Japanese theater where he was instrumental in forming the GI Gospel Hour, a ministry reaching civilians and servicemen for the Lord.
On June 15, 1957, Paul married June Lay who preceded him in death in 2004. To this union were born three daughters, Becky (Larry) Scott, Bobbi (Roberta) Lay, and Ruthanne (Dan) Hoshiko, all of whom survive. Paul retired from the Champion Spark Plug Company in Toledo after 30 years of service. In his retirement he owned and operated several area small businesses.
Paul was a graduate of the former Detroit Bible College, and had a special heart for helping people spiritually in the Dominican Republic. He was a long-time member of Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon, and was actively involved in starting the Napoleon campus where he faithfully attended.
Paul is also survived by five grandsons, Kent, Adam, and Tim Hoshiko; Willie and Joel Scott, many nieces and nephews, and several special friends, including Dennis (Mary) Newsome. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth (Betty) Lay, and his sister Eleanor (Glenn) Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Sunday October 25 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon with the funeral to follow at 4:00 pm. Pastors Wes Hoffmire and Levi Stuckey officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Toledo Memorial Park at 10:30 am on Monday, October 26. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the ministry of SEND.org or to the building fund of Crossroads Evangelical Church – Napoleon.
