Steven M. Winkler, Sr., age 67, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 7:05P.M. on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient. Mr. Winkler retired from GM in Defiance with over 25 years of service and then at Anderson-Vreeland in Bryan where he worked for 10 years. Steven was a US Army veteran having served in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He was a member of UAW Local #211 in Defiance, the Napoleon American Legion Post #300 and was a life member of Bryan VFW Post #2489. He also served as a Cub Scout leader.
Steven M. Winkler was born on October 25, 1948, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Phillip Thomas and Mary Jane (Denison) Winkler. On July 12, 2002 he married Marcia A. (Doughten) in Defiance, and she survives. Steve is also survived by his children, Tina Winkler (Jason Armey) of Napoleon, Dawn (Brady) Woolace, of Defiance, Steven Winkler, Jr. (Michelle Burkhart), of Pioneer, Erik (Sabrina) Winkler, of Ney, Kendra Winkler (Chris Hansen), of Roanoke, Indiana, Brad Winkler, of Defiance, and Cory Winkler, of Bryan; step children, Jared (Stephanie) Frymire, of Defiance and Tiffany Frymire (Martin Morris), of London, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; siblings, Phillip Keith (Brenda) Winkler, of Cecil, Mark (Noy) Winkler, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Belinda Winkler, of Defiance and Jerry Winkler, of Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Tom, Roger and David Winkler.
Funeral services for Steven M. Winkler will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan with Pastor Lowell Fast officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan with graveside military rites provided by the United States Army and Bryan VFW Post #2489. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Bryan VFW Post #2489 or the Kidney Transplant Center at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
