Alice I. Rath, age 85, of Ney, Ohio, died at 8:10 P.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan where she was a patient. Mrs. Rath was a bookkeeper at the IGA store in Bryan for 18 years and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing in the Upper Peninsula and spending time with her great grandchildren.
Alice was born on September 19, 1928 in Montpelier, Ohio, the daughter of Fay and Thelma (Harrington) Stemen. She married Gordon L. Rath on December 23, 1949 in West Jefferson, Ohio and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1987.
Alice is survived by a son, Phillip Rath, of Schoolcraft, Michigan 2 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and brothers, Lee Stemen, of Bryan and Harold Stemen, of West Jefferson, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon L. Rath; daughter, Pamela Schaffer; sisters, Helen Hugg and Phyllis Davis and brothers, Stanley “Keith” Stemen, Charles “Chuck” Stemen and Roger Stemen.
Grave side services for Alice I. Rath will be held at West Jefferson Cemetery at a later date. Her services have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio.
Contributions in memory of Alice I. Rath may be given to the VFW Auxiliary or an organization of the donor’s choice.
