Bette J. Schlup, 91

Bette J. Schlup, 91 years, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 in her residence with her family at her side. Bette was born June 1, 1926 in Marion County, Indiana the daughter of John and Dora (Bunch) Elliott. She married Paul E. Madden, and the marriage ended in divorce. She then married Tom Schlup and he preceded her in death in 1976. Bette was employed by General Electric in Fort Wayne for many years. After relocating to Altamonte Springs, Florida, Bette worked as a seamstress at Sears & Roebuck. She was a member of the Hamilton Church of Christ, where she participated in the Tuesday morning Bible Study, the Red Hat Society, as well as the Home Economics Club and Card Club. A well-known seamstress, she mended and provided alterations for many people. She also enjoyed reading a good book, her bible and in general, being around others.

Surviving is her daughter, Victoria (Lloyd) Bartels of Hamilton; stepson, Ron (Jane) Schlup of Huntington, Indiana; three grandchildren, Angela D. Bartels of Loganville, Georgia, Joe (Kathleen) Bartels of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Linda Bartels Nutting of Spokane, Washington; two step-grandchildren, Paula (Randy) Enyeart and Amy Okley; five great-grandchildren, Kellie, Adam, Austen, Abby and Sarah; four step great-grandchildren, Adrienne, Olin, Hannah and Isaiah along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Otis, Jack, Chester, Haskell and Herbert Bunch and one sister, Shirley Hibbard.

Memorial services for Bette J. Schlup will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Hamilton Church of Christ, 4040 East Church Street, Hamilton, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Private interment will take place in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The family will receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Services are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Hamilton, Indiana.
