Betty Bishop, 88

Betty J. Bishop, 88 years, formerly of Alvordton, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at her home in Bryan.  Betty was born May 11, 1926 in DuPont, Ohio the daughter of the late George W. and Eula B. (Elser) King.  She was a 1944 graduate of Alvordton High School.  She married Ralph Emerson Bishop on September 28, 1946, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1994.  A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Betty enjoyed time spent with her family, crocheting, fishing with her husband, gardening, mowing the lawn and following the Detroit Tigers, rarely missing a game on television.  Betty also followed the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team.  She was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church

Surviving are her three children, Ralph W. “Bill” (Kristina) Bishop of Montpelier, Kathy Rhoades of Bryan and Cindy (Mike) Thompson of Carey, Ohio; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Woolace of Bryan.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph, two sisters, Blanche Eyer and Dorotha Bailey and three brothers, George “Rolland” King, John “Clifford” King and Lawrence W. “Coty” King.

Visitation for Betty Bishop will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity.  Funeral services for Betty will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 in the Pioneer United Methodist Church, 708 East Baubice Street, with Pastor Jesse Blevins officiating.  Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
