Beulah N. Borton, 88, of Alvordton passed away early Friday morning at Parkcliff Community in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on December 20, 1928 in Alger, Ohio to Ralph and Ida L. (Taylor) Grant. Beulah was the 1946 valedictorian of Alvordton High School, she attended Defiance College. On July 31, 1948, she married Kenneth L. “Shorty” Borton and he preceded her in death June 16, 2011.
Beulah had a United Methodist church background, where she taught Sunday School. She assisted with 4-H. Beulah retired in 1977 after 27 years from Hayes-Albion in Bryan in production. After that she worked at the Chicken Coop in Alvordton doing crafts for approximately 8 years. She helped her husband on the farm, she did the accounting for the farm and her husband’s construction business. Beulah loved to garden. She enjoyed her retirement and loved to travel.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Mark) Soike of Belleair Beach, Florida and Jackie (Kent) Haas of Montpelier; three grandchildren, Stephanie (William) Whittington, Ben Haas, Erica Soike; and four great grandchildren; seven siblings, Alvera Borton of West Unity, Catherine Montague of West Unity, Marlene Grant of Alvorton, Neil (Julia) Grant of Alvorton, June (Butch) Hansen of Wichita, Kansas, Kenny (Scottie) Grant of South Bend, Indiana, and Glenda Balser of North Carolina.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, husband Shorty, son Jerry W. Borton on August 16, 1997, two brothers, Delbert and Dale Grant, and one sister Louise Sinkey.
Visitation for Beulah will be on Monday, March 20th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Tuesday at 11am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Blank to officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Burt Road in Hillsdale County, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be given to Ohio Living Hospice or CHP-Hospice.
