Bill Weaner, 86

William J. “Bill” Weaner, 86 years, of Sherwood passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Genesis Healthcare – Bryan Center in Bryan, Ohio.

Bill was born March 22, 1927 in Delaware Twp, Ohio, the son of the late Peter and Theresia (Weaver) Weaner.  He was a 1945 graduate of Sherwood-Delaware High School.   He served in the Marines in WWII on the East Coast. He later, graduated from Toledo Barber College in Toledo, Ohio.   He married Mildred L. “Millie” Reeb on June 30, 1951 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Delaware Bend.  Bill worked at Defiance General Motors, Central Foundry, for 40 years.  Bill was a life-long member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, now St. Isidore Catholic Church, Delaware Bend and the Holy Name Society and the Sherwood VFW Post 5665.  He enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting and fishing in Ohio and Michigan with family and friends.  Like all his Weaner brothers, Bill could build or repair about anything.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred L. “Millie” Weaner of Sherwood; two sons, David Weaner of  Westerville, Ohio and Mark Weaner of Miami, Florida; one brother Paul  Weaner of Napoleon, Ohio, and one sister Rita Bowers of Defiance, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by five sisters Geraldine Couture, Catherine Spengler, Bernadette Weaner, Hazel Miller, and Mary McGaharan;  four brothers, Monroe, Robert, Maurice  and Norman  Weaner.

Visitation for William J. “Bill” Weaner will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening.  Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 16166 Speaker Road, Defiance, Ohio at 10:30am Wednesday, May 29, 2013 with Father Robert Kill officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Sherwood VFW Post 5665.
