Sheriff Steve Towns said a letter sent to him Thursday by Williams County Commissioners is part of an ongoing effort to “squeeze” his budget, and also to undermine his recent investigations into the Bryan City Schools and the Williams County Department of Jobs and Family Services. The Bryan Times reports Towns made his comments Thursday in response to a letter commissioners sent him asking him to adjust his spending to avoid a year-end budget shortfall in his department. The three-sentence letter, dated Oct. 6 was signed by all three commissioners, Brian Davis, Lew Hilkert and Al Word. In part, the letter stated that the Board of Commissioners request that the sheriff’s department change their spending habits to leviate the shortfall.
