Burl H. Woody, age 97, of Delta, Ohio passed away peacefully on the morning of November 1, 2013 in his daughter’s home in Delta. He was born near Malinta, Ohio on January 18, 1916 to the late John and Emma (Williams) Woody. On July 27, 1946 he married Helen Poca and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage together until her death on August 4, 2012. Burl was a World War II Merchant Marine veteran serving in the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Mediterranean. He had many stories to tell of those days. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Delta, the Delta American Legion, the Swanton Elks, and was a Grand Marshall of the Delta Chicken Festival. Burl was a life long auto mechanic and was employed by many area Chrysler and Plymouth dealership shops.
Burl is survived by his son, B.J. Woody, of Delta. Daughter, Carol (Eric) Burns, of Delta. Grand-daughter, Jamie (Chris) Todd, of Colorado. Grandson, Brian Burns, of Delta and infant Great-grandson, Kaleb Todd.
Besides his wife and parents, Burl is preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Kenneth, and sister, Myrtle Rochefort.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 04, 2013 in Grisier Funeral Home, Delta, Ohio. Rev. Eric Markovich officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Delta, Ohio. Luncheon will follow the interment services in Trinity Lutheran Church, Delta, Ohio.
Friends may call 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
