Carol J. Custer, 84, of Montpelier passed away Saturday night at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Montpelier. She was born on February 11, 1931 in Stryker, Ohio to Albert H. and Lucille A. (Allison) Stamm. Carol graduated from Stryker High School in 1949. On January 5, 1952 she married Ellsworth L. Custer and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2007.
Carol was a nurse’s aide and home health care aide for the Montpelier Hospital for 22 years, until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Williams County Historical Society and the Montpelier Hospital Auxiliary. Carol enjoyed going to the Montpelier Senior Center.
She is survived by three sons, Douglas Custer of Montpelier, Dennis Custer of Montpelier and David (Janet) Custer of Montpelier; one daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Impton of Montpelier; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; one sister Ivyl Carlin of Stryker; one brother-in-law Don Beck of Stryker; and one sister-in-law Lois Stamm of Westerville, Ohio and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ellsworth, one brother Garnett Stamm and one sister Janis Beck.
Visitation for Carol will be on Wednesday, April 15th from 4-8pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home, 335 Empire Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Thursday at 1pm at the funeral home with Greg Stamm to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Donations may be made to the Montpelier Senior Center or to the Montpelier Hospital Auxilary.
