A pair of resignations highlight the Swanton Village Council meeting. Following an executive session, council accepted the resignations of fiscal officer Karla Sexton and superintendent of public service, James Reckner. Sexton accepted another position in the private sector. Reckner will pursue other employment opportunities, also.

Swanton Elementary School goes into temporary lockdown when a belligerent parent attempts to enter the main hallway of the school. The parent was picked up by a school resource officer and told never to come on campus again…unless accompanied by a police officer.

Area crews take on a barn fire on County Road 1000 East, near Metz. The barn and it’s contents were destroyed in the blaze. Crews worked for roughly four hours at the scene. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

A 14-year-old North Central Local Schools student, whose comments caused concern during a week filled with school threats across the country, is charged with misdemeanor inducing panic. The student was suspended by the school and an expulsion hearing was held.

A Montpelier woman, accused of stealing a rifle in an area home burglary, pleads guilty. Caysee Edinger broke into an occupied residence on Wood Drive in Montpelier and stole the weapon. Her sentencing is set for April 10.

Tips from the Williams County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page leads to the arrest of Katelynn Jones of Wauseon. In November, Jones was indicted for breaking and entering at the Bryan branch of the Williams County Public Library. After skipping out, she was located and brought in again on charges.

Day two of jury selection in the murder trial of James Worley came and went. The Delta man faces 17 charges in the kidnapping and killing of Sierah Joughin. According to court officials, jury selection is expected to continue through the week.

The First Financial Bank on S Main St. in Bryan is going to close. The five employees there will be transferred to other posts, rather than laid off. The bank closes on Memorial Day. The closest First Financial branch is in Paulding.
