Cemetery Rates Still Unchanged In Defiance

Defi­ance City Coun­cil has decided that there will be no changes, at least for now, with regard to River­side Ceme­tery rate increases. Coun­cil decided to wait at least another week before vot­ing on rate increases that were announced last week.

Under the pro­posal to increase fees, some rates at River­side Ceme­tery would dou­ble for Defi­ance res­i­dents, and go even higher for non-city res­i­dents.

Coun­cil is con­cerned that while the city’s ceme­tery bud­get is $218,000, River­side gen­er­ates only about $70,000 annu­ally in revenue.
