Charles W. “Bill” Zimmerman, 95

Charles W. “Bill” Zimmerman Jr., 95, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at Vancrest of Hicksville (Ohio).  Bill was born August 18, 1928, in Jackson Township, DeKalb County, Indiana, son of the late Charles W. and Irene (Erbscorn) Zimmerman, Sr.  He graduated from Harlan High School.  On October 5, 1948, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sargent, serving until his honorable discharge on August 29, 1952.  He married Imogene L. “Bobbie” Hinsch on January 20, 1951 in Hicksville, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2000.  Bill then married Sandra L. Dull on July 21, 2001, in Hicksville, and she survives.  After his time in the service concluded, Bill started as a Machine Operator at Dana Corp., where he worked for over 37 years.  He also owned and operated Zimmerman Small Engine Repair Service, which he started in 1969.  Bill was a member of the Hicksville First Church of Christ, United Steel Workers Union, Marine Corps League and served on the Hicksville Veterans Memorial Committee from 2013 – 2017.  One of Bill’s greatest accomplishments was starting the Hicksville chapter of Christmas for Kids in 1998, which is now carried on by the Hicksville Fire Department.

Surviving are his three sons, Gary Zimmerman, Greg (Pauline) Zimmerman, and Jeff “Zimmy” (Angela) Zimmerman, all of Hicksville; two step-children, Ken (Tammy) Boyce of Tennessee, and Jeri (Todd) Lindemann of Hicksville; three grandchildren, Angela (Jay) Powell of Hicksville, Jason (Crystal) Zimmerman of New Haven, Indiana, and Cassandra Blue of Ney, Ohio; one step-grandson, Brett (Brittany) Myers of Auburn, Indiana; six great-grandchildren, Carter, Emmett, Greyson, Lexis, Owen and Eloise; three step-great-grandchildren, Alivia, Luke and Lane; and five siblings, Jack Zimmerman of Kingman, Arizona, Jean Hanes of Churubusco, Indiana, Patricia Liggett of Churubusco, Indiana, Ron Zimmerman of Angola, Indiana, and Ted (Carol) Zimmerman of Michigan.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bobbie Zimmerman; daughter-in-law, Deborah Zimmerman; and two siblings, Bob Zimmerman, and Betty Zimmerman.

Visitation for Charles W. “Bill” Zimmerman Jr., will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.  Funeral services for Bill will immediately follow in the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Jerold Tear officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery.
